Police searching for suspects in Southpoint mall stabbing

Durham police said Saturday that two women have been arrested in connection with a stabbing that occurred at The Streets at Southpoint mall last Sunday afternoon.

Natoyia Barbee, 35, of Durham, was taken into custody Friday and charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon and assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, police said in a written statement.

According to police, Barbee booked on outstanding warrants from Durham and Wake counties and charged with two counts of misdemeanor larceny, one count of simple assault, one count of assault by pointing a gun and one count of failure to appear in court on an earlier charge of larceny from Durham County.

She was arrested on one count of misdemeanor larceny, one count of failure to appear in court on an earlier charge of obtaining property by false pretense and one count of resisting an officer from Wake County.

Barbee was being held at the Durham County Jail in lieu of a $302,500 bond.

Latonya Williamson, 33, of Durham, was also arrested yesterday and charged with aiding and abetting robbery with a dangerous weapon in connection with the incident at The Streets at Southpoint, according to police. She was being held at the Durham jail on a $36,000 bond, the police statement said.

Durham police said a loss prevention officer was stabbed during a confrontation with two women who had been accused of shoplifting at Macy's about 4:30 p.m.

Police said the women fled in a four-door sedan.

The loss prevention officer was taken to an area hospital for treatment of serious injuries. The officer's condition on Saturday was not immediately available.
