Trooper injured after driver plows into parked cruiser along I-85 in Orange County

Orange County Sheriff's Office is investigating a crash involving a trooper who was assisting a disabled passenger bus on I-85 southbound Saturday morning.

The incident occurred around 8:25 a.m. when a Ford Ranger pickup struck the trooper's cruiser that was parked on the side of the road at mile marker 163.

The trooper sustained minor injuries and was transported to the hospital as a precautionary measure.

The Sheriff's Office is warning drivers to be aware of their surroundings and to avoid distractions while driving. They say interstate highways are already dangerous, and combining high speeds, distracted driving, and construction is a recipe for disaster.

An investigation into the crash is underway.
