Trooper helps deliver baby on Raleigh's Capital Boulevard

A North Carolina State Highway Patrol trooper helped deliver a baby Monday morning near the intersection of Capital and Highwoods boulevards in Raleigh.

According to a Facebook post, Sgt. W.C. Johnson was driving south on Capital Boulevard when he saw a white SUV in the median with its emergency flashers on.

As he approached the stoplight, he noticed the driver waving at him to stop. Once he got out of the car, the driver yelled, "I need your help. She's having a baby."

Johnson jumped into action and was able to assist in the birth of the baby. He also provided life-saving measures to support the newborn until the fire department and EMS arrived. The baby and mother were taken to a local hospital by ambulance.

Johnson visited with the mother and baby Achilles on Monday afternoon. Both are doing well.
