Three juveniles are in custody after a carjacking that ended in a chase and shots being fired Sunday in Raleigh.

According to the Raleigh Police Department, the car was reported stolen on Saturday and the chase began around 1 p.m. on Sunday at Lions Park near Dennis Avenue.

The car’s owner lost track of it but had family in the area who found it Sunday and began chasing it.

Darice Sewell said the stolen car hit his car during the chase.

"I was leaving the neighborhood Walnut Trace," he said. "I was about to turn left [and a] blue Honda goes to my left side, but cuts in front of me and goes right."

Sewell said the car side-swiped him, and he saw two vehicles chasing the stolen car shortly afterward. Raleigh police could not confirm if a third car was involved.

Sewell said he recognized the car from a Facebook post by his friend saying someone stole their car.

"I was like, 'Wow, that's crazy.' It kind of threw me off. Your stolen car just hit me," he said.

Shots were fired from the suspects’ car, and gunfire was exchanged between the suspects' car and a second car. Police did not know if the second round of shots came from the suspects' car or the one chasing it.

The chase went down Raleigh Boulevard, Rock Quarry Road and ended on Hammond Road.

Three suspects, later confirmed to be juveniles, abandoned the car and ran from the scene.

Police took all three juveniles into custody and found a handgun in the stolen car. Police did not know if the gun belonged to the car’s owner or the suspects.

The investigation is ongoing.
