Theatre Raleigh's next family show, 'Where Words Once Were,' set in dystopian time

Theatre Raleigh will open "Where Words Once Were," the latest show in its popular family series this week.

The 70-minute show is best for ages 9 and up. It opens Friday and runs on select days through April 7.

The show was originally commissioned by the Kennedy Center in 2016 and went on to the Lincoln Center in New York. The award-winning play is set in a dystopian time where language is rationed.

Shows run at 7 p.m., Fridays, 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., Saturdays, and 2 p.m., Sundays. I'll be at the 2 p.m., Saturday, March 23, show with some show-themed crafts. Get there early—around 1:15 or so—to take part!

Shows take place at the Kennedy Theatre inside the Duke Energy Center for Performing Arts. The small black box theater is intimate—and a great place for kids to see plays like this because they really feel like they are part of the action.
