At the Tokyo Olympics games in 2021, Cary native Claire Curzan, 16, took home the silver medal in the 4x100 women's medley. Later, she would go on to set an American record in the 50-meter backstroke.

Before she was an Olympian, Curzan trained at a local Cary pool. Now that pool has been chosen to train future Olympians.

The 2024 U.S. swim team has announced that The Triangle Aquatic Center (TAC) in Cary, located behind the old Cary Towne Center at 275 Convention Drive, will be a training site for the 2024 summer Olympics.

TAC has been working with USA Swimming for the past year. Leaders said they are honored for this opportunity for their club.

The TAC Titans sent 14 swimmers to the 2021 U.S. Olympics Trials, more than any other club in the country. The club put two on the Olympic Team, Curzan and Ashley Twichell.

TAC executive director Derek Wall said, “We feel like it’s a great opportunity for us to be supportive of USA Swimming, and to be supportive of these great athletes to try to get them what they need.”

The domestic training camps will take place between June 30 through July 10.

The summer Olympics will be held from July 26 through August 11 in Paris, France.
