High-speed crash leaves two dead, two injured

A mother is searching for answers after her 19-year-old daughter, a passenger, was killed in a high-speed crash in Harnett County.

Two people died in the single-car crash June 21 – driver Rasaahn Cox, 26, and passenger Emily Brady, 19.

According to the State Highway Patrol, Cox was driving a burgundy Dodge Charger at a high rate of speed when he hit a ditch at 3:40 a.m. on Buffalo Lake Road near Valley View Court.

Brady's mother, Amantha Wyand, said her daughter and Cox were both thrown from the car, and Cox's body crashed into the second floor of a home. Photos show the red sedan, which was crushed, and damage to the second story window.

Brady, who was in the back seat, died at the scene. Two others involved in the crash survived and were taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center for treatment.

Wyand said the owner of the home ran outside and tried to help her daughter.

"The owner of the home ... the house that they ran into ... stated that when they came outside ... that her son and the other surviving young lady that was in the car went over to my daughter to tried to see if there was anything that they could do to help her," Wyand said. "But she was already gone."

Wyand said her daughter was in the wrong place at the wrong time, having accepted a ride from a man she did not know well.

"The gentleman that was driving, from my understanding, they really didn't know each other," she said.

In a GoFundMe page created by a friend of the family, Emily was described as "a bright, smart, and determined young lady who did not deserve to have her life cut so short."

WRAL News is working to learn how fast the car was moving and why Cox was speeding.

The family friend said Wyand's other child was almost killed in a crash earlier this year.

A visitation and funeral service will be held Friday.
