Tarboro shooting injures teenager, sends bullets spraying into nearby homes

A teenage boy was struck in the torso by a bullet after a shooting in Tarboro on Monday night that sent bullets flying into several homes.

One of those bullets passed through the bedroom wall of Katina Glover's 21-year-old son KJ, narrowly missing him.

KJ was sitting on his bed when a bullet came through the wall, bounced off another wall and then finally came to rest behind his door. It missed him by just a few feet, and KJ had to dive for cover until the shooting was over.

Glover says she's afraid the incident had potential to kill multiple people.

“Not too long ago, one of my closest friends lost her daughter the same way, and that could have been my son,” Glover said. “That could have been my mother, that could have been my nephew.”

Officers responded to shots fired in the area around 9:30 PM. When they arrived on the scene, they found a 15-year-old boy who had been shot in the torso.

There was no update on his condition on Tuesday, but Tarboro Police Chief Jesse Webb said the victim was awake and alert when he was taken to the hospital.

Before police closed off the street, WRAL News counted five bullet holes sprayed into the wall of Glover's building.

“I could have lost many members of my family,” Glover said. “My mom, my son, and my nephew.”

She said something needs to be done about the gun violence.

“It’s shooting over here, it's uncalled for," she said. “I want to catch who did this, it’s got to stop."

Tuesday morning brought concern and outrage to Elm Street in Tarboro, where police were continuing their investigation into a shooting that took place the night before.

Tarboro police had not identified a suspect in the shooting as of Tuesday morning.

The police chief told WRAL News that through witness statements and evidence collected during follow-up canvassing of the scene, they hoped to determine a person of interest.
