Two Raleigh teenagers are now growing a successful home business called "Sweet and Savoree Sisters."

Jessica, 17, and Sidney Hamilton, 15, might never have started their own business if not for the pandemic.

Their mom, Deanna Hamilton said, "During 2020, everybody was going a little stir crazy in the house."

Daughter Jessica said, "Since school was canceled, our mom signed us up for cooking classes." Later, they posted pictures of their "sweet treats" on social media and with help from their mom, they started a business account.

"Licensing and insurance and inspections to make everything good and legal," explained their mom.

Their dad’s experience in the bakery business also helped. Brian Hamilton said, "When they took this on, and they took to it like fish to water, and it just makes sense."

Suddenly, the orders piled up. "We got a cake order and then the next thing you know, we have a cake order in New Jersey," Jessica said.

Now, they also sell their wares in southeast Raleigh’s "Black Farmers’ Market" and other venues. "We’re at the southeast YMCA, right here in Raleigh selling our treats," said the sisters on their social media platforms.

Their biggest sellers include butter pecan squares.

"This is a recipe my dad used to make this all the time," Sidney said of the butter pecan squares.

Other popular item include cookies and cream bars, vanilla wafer bars plus, 'Mema’s Pound Cake,'" Sidney said. "This is a personal favorite of mine because, it’s a treat I grew up with. My mom taught me how to make it."

Now, the these young business owners have discovered the sweetest treat of all.

"People open up their cake, they eat it right in front of us and they just like, they run away in shock – they’re like, it’s so good," Sidney said.

The "Sweet and Savoree Sisters" are at the Black Farmers’ Market in southeast Raleigh every second and fourth Sundays – from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. They also do online orders.
