Spring Blooms: Explore JC Raulston Arboretum in Raleigh with mom
We're touring local gardens this week - just in time for Mother's Day on Sunday, May 13.
Today, we'll take a look at what's blooming at JC Raulston Arboretum in Raleigh.
This nationally acclaimed arboretum, part of NC State University, is more than 10 acres and features a broad selection of plants, trees and flowers that are dispersed across various gardens.

There's the the Asian Valley complete with interesting looking Asian trees and shrubs. And the Rooftop Terrace with drought-resistant plants.
The colorful butterfly garden lures butterflies and moths. And the shady Lath House features plants that need protection from the region's hot weather, among others.
For families, I particularly like some of the wide open spaces that are perfect for picnics and kids who need to exert some energy. But I also like the little pathways and trails that you'll find around corners or tucked between trees.
There's even a small natural play area with a teepee-like structure and stumps for kids to jump across.
The arboretum has a regular line up of events, including many for children.
Admission is free. Parking is available in a small lot that's attached to the arboretum and along Beryl Road. It's open daily. Find it at 4415 Beryl Rd., Raleigh.
