Suspects sought after car with toddler inside stolen from Moore County apartments

Police were searching for two men Saturday after they stole a car with a 1-year-old boy who was left inside as his mother was delivering a meal to a customer at a Southern Pines apartment complex, officials said.

Police were searching for two men Saturday after they stole a car with a 1-year-old boy who was left inside as his mother was delivering a meal to a customer at a Southern Pines apartment complex, officials said.

The incident occurred shortly after 9 p.m. at Timberlane Apartments, located in the 100 block of Murray Hill Road, police said.

The woman, 26, was working for DoorDash Food Delivery when she left her vehicle running and the door unlocked as she went to the customer's unit to drop off his meal.

The two unidentified men jumped in the vehicle and drove off.

The vehicle was found about two hours later and about two miles away on South Gaines Street, parked and with the child still inside.

The child was unharmed.

The man who ordered the food said he witnessed the theft and he got inside his car and began driving around looking for the suspects after the incident.

One of the suspects was described as a thin, man who is about 6 feet tall and wearing jeans and a dark hoodie and had an afro.

A description of the second man was not immediately provided.
