Smoke from Canadian forests fires affecting RDU flights

Smoke from Canadian wildfires has forced a ground stop at LaGuardia and Newark International Airports Wednesday, delaying travel for hundreds in or out of the New York Area.

This issue has even affected travelers going through the Raleigh Durham Airport.

A record-setting overcast smoke in the skies has caused the Triangle to have an air quality alert of code orange for several areas in North Carolina.

Many individuals say the sky looks like a scene from another planet. Especially in New York, where an impenetrable orange haze is making bridges, skyscrapers and runways disappear.

"It was really bizarre," said Melissa Smigelsky, a traveler.

Her flight from LaGuardia to RDU was held back by 50 minutes because of the sky conditions.

Many travelers like Smigelsky have been dealing with delays anywhere from thirty minutes, to an hour and a half going in and out of New York.

There is some good news for travelers because no cancellations have been tied to the smoke in the Triangle area.
