Six years ago, massive fire set Raleigh district ablaze

Six years ago, a five-alarm fire engulfed a section of downtown Raleigh in what is believed to be the city's largest fire in 100 years.

The fire broke out on March 16, 2017, in an apartment building under construction in downtown Raleigh near the Glenwood South restaurant and bar district. The fire spread to nine nearby buildings and forced evacuations.

The cause of the blaze is still unknown.

The Quorum Center and Link apartments suffered extensive damage. The Quorum Center was the last of the damaged buildings to reopen in 2019.

The only known injury from the fire was a firefighter cut by glass.
