Get ready for long lines at the gas pump! Sheetz is dropping its gas price to $1.99 for Thanksgiving week.

The Thanksgiving promotion went into effect at participating Sheetz gas stations Monday, Nov. 20, and will continue until Monday, Nov. 27, at 11:59 p.m.

Until Nov. 27, Unleaded 88 gas will cost only $1.99 per gallon at Sheetz locations in Pennsylvania, Ohio, North Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia.

Signs at gas stations will reflect the changes, but customers can use their Sheetz app or the website to make sure the promotion is available at their nearest Sheetz station.

Gas prices are dropping, but $1.99 is still an amazing deal. On Monday the national average price of gas was $3.308 per gallon. North Carolina's average was $3.029.

With the Sheetz $1.99 deal, 15 gallons of gas would cost $29.85 instead of $45.44.

According to Gas Buddy, some gas prices in Raleigh are at the lowest level since January.

Gas Buddy spokesperson Patrick De Haan believes prices will stay low for at least a couple months.

"I think we will continue to see this window of opportunity last probably until Valentine's Day next year," De Haan said. "That's when we'll see start to see gas prices rising seasonally."

Sheetz gas will be the cheapest option this week, but some stations in Raleigh has gas as low as $2.68 per gallon.

You can find the least expensive gas near you with the WRAL's Fuel Tracker tool.

The price drop comes during the busiest travel week of the year.

AAA expects more than 2 million Carolinians to take a Thanksgiving road trip, and airlines are expecting the busiest Thanksgiving season since before the pandemic.
