Hope Mills woman on hospice care pleading to see son one final time

Elsie McAdams, 89, is a terminally ill cancer patient currently in hospice care with her granddaughter in Hope Mills.

McAdams, who is currently ill with Stage 4 pancreatic cancer, said she's lived a good life.

"I prayed for everything I've done wrong. I went back and told them, forgive me. I was too young to know anything," she said.

Family members said McAdams has helped others throughout her life. For years, McAdams purchased candy to give to residents at nursing homes.

Even this year, when she got word that one of her other sons was driving down from New Jersey, she sent out to make sure he had Christmas gifts.

"Everywhere she lived, she always had to have some candy for someone or give somebody something," said McAdams’ son, Ronald Terry.

Now, McAdams said she hopes someone can give her a final wish of seeing her youngest son, Joseph McAdams.

Joseph McAdams has been in prison for 17 years.

While she talks with her son on the phone occasionally, Elsie McAdams said she wants to see her son one more time before she leaves earth.

"So, that's why we came up with the Zoom call, so she can see him and be at peace," said McAdams’ granddaughter, Wendy McAdams-Flores. "I know once this happens, she's going to go. She's holding on for her son."

McAdams said if she was able to see her son's face today, she would tell him that she loved him and "to take care of yourself and don't get into no kind of trouble for nobody."

Family members said Sen. Cory Booker is trying to help connect McAdams and her son.
