Sewage truck overturns on Hammond Road in Raleigh

A truck carrying sewage waste overturned on Hammond Road in south Raleigh on Monday, blocking traffic and prompting a large response.

Before 8:30 a.m., Sky 5 video showed an overturned Wall Recycling truck and its tank, which came loose, spilling debris and an unidentified substance all over the road.

More than a dozen firefighters and EMS workers were at the scene at 9 a.m. using shovels to clean up the road.

The driver of the truck was taken to the hospital. The severity of their injuries was not provided.

According to its website, Wall Recycling "is the Triangle’s largest recycling company" and provides "full-service waste management and scrap metal recycling for both commercial and consumer needs in Eastern North Carolina."

It is unclear if other vehicles were involved.

Both directions of Hammond Road were closed between Interstate 40 and Rush Street.
