'Rage rooms' let the stressed-out smash things

We're now well into the new year and on the horizon of a new month. It only seems right that activities are added to the list. My daughters and I decided that 2022 will be a year of new fun for us.

Below are a few things we want to try and will in due time. If you've already gotten in on the fun, wonderful! Let us know about your experiences. Otherwise, read on and add these to your list.

Splatter Paint Rooms

Think you may have an inner Frida Kahlo, Jean-Michel Basquiat, or Jackson Pollock to unleash? If so, splatter paint rooms may just be your thing.

Throw on clothes you don't mind getting dirty and head out. Some places provide you with coverings or paint suits on site. Either way, you'll be prepared to have colorful fun!

My daughters and I figure there are a few ways to experience this form of creative expression. 1) Enter on a soul-searching mission to let your muse find you, 2) Go wild withholding nothing, 3) Enter methodically with the intention to create your best artistic work.

Whatever you walk out with will be magic and pure genius because it's yours.

Pinspiration, 865 Inspiration Dr, Wilmington, NC 28405

Splatter Charlotte, 626 N Graham St, STE 205, Charlotte, NC 28202

Mad Splatter, 2917 Battleground Ave A, Greensboro, NC 27408

Selfie Museums

Tell me you've heard of selfie museums in this age of social media. If not, no worries. You'll know after today.

Selfie museums are spaces designed with various artistic/creative backgrounds to pose in. Hence, 'selfie' museums. Although the photos can be used for whatever you'd like, they are especially used for posting on social media platforms.

We are yet to experience our first but I'm sure we won't be disappointed. If, like us, you love photographs (and Instagram), these kind of museums are where you want to be. Luckily, they're popping up all over North Carolina. I've listed various locations below.

Selfie Symposium, 6905 Fayetteville Road Ste 203, Durham, NC 27713.

Selfie By The Hive, 930 South Graham Hopedale, Burlington, NC 27217

Berry Bomb Selfie Spot, 5959 Triangle Town Blvd. Ste 2152, Raleigh, NC 27616

You Love Selfies, 4325 Glenwood Ave Suite 1201, Raleigh, NC 27612

Candid Charlotte: The Selfie Museum, 115 N Main St, Mt Holly, NC 28120

Rage Rooms

This activity may be considered the ultimate stress reliever. The mission? To destroy as much stuff as possible, within your designated space, without having to worry about the clean up.

No....seriously. That's the mission. And you may even get a choice of tools depending on the establishment.

Most rage rooms require you to be at least 13 years old to participate. Be sure to look at individual policies/requirements.

Break 'N Bash, 2900 E Market Street, Greensboro, NC 27405.

Rage On, SecureCare Self Storage Unit A24, 900 Morrisville Parkway, Morrisville, NC 27560

Wreck It Rage Room, 607 Ellis Rd, Durham, NC 27703

Wreck & Release, 201 Murchison Road Suite A, Fayetteville, NC 28301

As you browse the websites above, be sure to take a peek at their linked social media accounts. That'll give you an idea of what to expect. I live by this mode of research when seeking activities for my family.

The original plan was to visit these businesses before writing the article but life happens. However, as we make our way through this great state, we'll continue to share our experiences here on WRAL and on the blog, https://www.thrillermom.com/.

Look out for new adventures in both places.
