We're feeling fall. Here's what to expect as the leaves change in NC

The highest elevations of the NC mountains will reach peak or near-peak color this weekend.

Despite a soggy week with flash flooding in the NC mountains, the weather will begin to improve Saturday in the mountains with more sunshine by Sunday to get better views of the orange, yellow, and red hues.

If you’re making the trip west, aim for the high elevations. The higher the better with locations above 4000’ showing the most color this weekend.

The Blue Ridge Parkway typically runs in the 3000-4000’ range where there is partial color showing but it is not yet at peak color.

Some great spots to go to this weekend include Grandfather Mountain, Elk Knob State Park, Beech Mountain, and Sugar Mountain if you’re heading to the northern mountains.

Craggy Gardens and Graveyard Fields should also be nice spots to visit if you’ll be traveling closer to Asheville. Both spots are right on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Don’t forget to send me your fall foliage pictures so I can share them on TV!

Happy leaf peeping!
