Seaplane crashes near Bald Head Island, 2 rescued

A seaplane crashed near Bald Head Island on Friday morning, leading to the rescue of two people.

Two people were on the plane when it was struck by a swell during takeoff, according to NBC affiliate WECT.

The U.S. Coast Guard was one of several responding agencies. Authorities said the plane went down in the Cape Fear River.

There is no word on injuries or the condition of the two who were on the plane.

The Village of Bald Head Island said the plane landed about a half-mile offshore.
