A Sanford man has been arrested after allegedly setting a home on fire and violating a domestic violence protective order.

On Monday, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office served Derek John Welsch, 43, of Sanford, with a domestic violence protective order.

Later that evening, Lee County deputies responded to a fire at a home on Luck Lane in Sanford. Investigators said Welsch was responsible for starting the fire.

Welsch was arrested on Tuesday and charged with second-degree arson, violating a domestic violence protective order and communicating threats.

Welsch is currently being held at the Lee County Jail without bond.
