Robbery suspect arrested in Cumberland County

Deputies in Cumberland County arrested a man on Wednesday accused of robbery.

According to the Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to a commercial alarm on Dec. 19 on the 3800 block on Dunn Road. When deputies arrived, they were notified a business robbery occurred.

Prior to the alarm call, 44-year-old Cesario Melvin entered the store and threatened the clerk while demanding money from the register. Deputies said Melvin eventually stole an undisclosed amount of money and several packs of cigarettes and ran from the scene.

At 3 a.m. Wednesday, detectives located the car Melvin used in the robbery at a motel while conducting follow-ups on Cedar Creek Road. Deputies attempted to contact Melvin, but he refused to open the door.

Deputies eventually apprehended Melvin without incident. He is charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, second-degree kidnapping, possession of stolen goods, assault on a female, communicating threats and driving while license revoked.

Melvin is at the Cumberland County Detention Center under $25,000 bond. Melvin had his first court appearance Wednesday at the Cumberland County Detention Center.
