Roanoke Rapids police arrested a woman for allegedly stabbing a mother several times in the chest in front of her child.

Early Saturday morning, a stabbing occurred on the 800 block of Raleigh Street. 

A woman was stabbed several times in the chest and was transported to ECU North. The victim is in stable condition.  During the assault the defendant's child was present, but was not injured. 

Sabrina Nicole Carr, 28, of Roanoke Rapids, has been charged with attempted murder and child abuse. 

The Department of Social Services placed the child with a family member.

Carr received a $400,000 bond. She's scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 28.
