Residents concerned about lack of water availability after water main break on Bald Head Island

A 10-inch water main break on Bald Head Island caused an island-wide water outage on Tuesday night.

WECT reports that break happened while a boring crew was installing fiber optic cables around 4:30 p.m.

While the repair was completed at 8 p.m., residents will still be without water for a while longer, according to WECT, while Village Utilities flushes the line and re-pressures the line to resume full service.

The water outage has caused residents to be concerned about the lack of drinking water and water for fighting fires, if needed.

The process of restoring water pressue and determining it is safe to drink again could take 24-48 hours.
