Report grades NC hospitals and some Triangle facilities received high marks

Some of the safest hospitals in North Carolina are in the Triangle, according to the latest hospital safety report released Wednesday.

The Leapfrog Group issues the safety grades twice a year.

The assessments are based on five categories, including infections, problems in surgery and preventing errors.

According to the report, five hospitals in the UNC System received an "A" grade for safety, including UNC Medical Center in Chapel Hill, UNC REX Healthcare in Raleigh, Johnston Health in Clayton, UNC Rockingham Health in Eden, and Wayne UNC Health in Goldsboro.

Betsy Johnson Regional, Duke Raleigh, Duke Regional and Duke University Hospitals also received As.

WakeMed and Wake Med Cary both received Bs.

So did Maria Parham, VIdant Edgecombe, Johnston Health, Central Harnett.

Some facilities in the Triangle received C grades: Sampson Regional in Clinton, Nash Hospitals in Rocky Mount and Halifax Regional in Roanoke Rapids.
