Kidzu Children's Museum in Chapel Hill has been offering all kinds of online and at-home activities for kids and families since it closed its doors because of the pandemic in March.

Among them are dozens of kid-friendly recipes as part of its Kids in Your Kitchen series. To help it continue to share recipes and other virtual programs and prepare for reopening at a future date, Kidzu is hosting a big virtual fall benefit on Sept. 25, which I wrote about earlier this week and includes lots of fun activities for kids and adults.

Kidzu was kind enough to share some of its recipes with Go Ask Mom. So here's a popular one — how to make ice cream without an ice cream maker. We've made this at my house, and it's delcious!

Ice Cream Without an Ice Cream Maker

2 cups heavy cream
pinch of salt
1 14-ounce can sweetened condensed milk

Optional mix-ins: Vanilla, cocoa powder, berries

Whip the heavy cream until its in stiff peaks. In a separate bowl, add in the mix-ins to the sweetened condensed milk.

Mix the cream and milk together and stick in the freezer for six hours.

Check out how you make it on Kidzu's Youtube page.

Go Ask Mom features recipes every Friday.
