Pool chemicals prompted an evacuation Friday at the United States Postal Service (USPS) post office in Zebulon.

Before 7:30 a.m., first responders were called to a hazmat incident at the USPS at 139 E. Vance Street in downtown Zebulon. The store was evacuated. Some of the post office workers asked to be checked out by EMS after they reported feeling dizzy.

At 10:30 a.m., services had resumed as normal at the post office. A team determined the materials were pool chemicals.

A man told WRAL News he witnessed a chemical spill inside the post office, which prompted the evacuation.

The road was temporarily closed in front of the post office, according to a worker in the area, and has since reopened.

Zebulon police and fire departments, the Raleigh Fire Department and Raleigh Hazmat responded to the incident.
