Police arrested a man inside of a Walmart over the weekend after receiving a call from a woman’s family saying she’d been kidnapped by a Youngsville man and forced to drive to South Carolina.

Police in North Myrtle Beach responded to the Walmart on North Highway 17 Sunday afternoon after a woman said her mom had been kidnapped in Youngsville and was being forced to drive the man to Myrtle Beach.

51-year-old Danny Denton, of Youngsville, was arrested in the case and faces several charges, including kidnapping.

Reports show the victim headed to Denton’s house around 2 p.m. Sunday to take him grocery shopping.

When she arrived Denton was angry and accused her of putting snakes inside his home. He allegedly grabbed a steak knife held it to her throat and threatened to kill her if she didn’t drive him wherever he wanted to go. Denton told the woman to stop at a bank and withdraw $200 to give to him before they left North Carolina.

The police report said Denton sat behind the woman during the drive and threatened to stab her if she did not follow his directions. At one point, the woman's husband called her and she communicated her situation to him.

When Denton and the woman arrived at Walmart, officers located the two and detained Denton, who admitted to law enforcement that he threatened to kill the woman. A knife was found in the back seat of the vehicle.

Police are requesting warrants for kidnapping, assault and battery and possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a crime.
