A woman has been charged with murder after one person was killed and several others taken to the hospital from a serious crash in Durham.

Around 3 a.m. on Oct. 5, a car crashed and overturned on Page Road near Comstock Road.

Durham police said four people were in the car -- three of whom were ejected from the car when it crashed.

Police said Nyasia Palmer was driving a 2023 Hyundai Sonata traveling northeast on Page Road when she lost control of the vehicle and ran off the road to the right. The vehicle slid sideways across a concrete median before entering a wooded area. The vehicle hit a large tree and went airborne before landing in the roadway and sliding upside down.

Elijah Hawkins-Maynor died in the crash. He was 22 years old and a Durham resident.

Palmer was driving 113 mph in a 45 mph speed limit zone, according to a release.
