Police: One arrested, charged in connection to Rocky Mount shooting Saturday

Rocky Mount police arrested a man in connection to a shooting Saturday morning at a DoubleTree Hotel.

According to police, investigators determined multiple people fired shots during a shooing at the hotel on 651 North Winstead Avenue.

The shooting left a 17-year-old injured. As of Monday night, the juvenile is in critical condition.

Police identified and arrested Achontay Cotton, 19 of Enfield, for his involvement in the shooting.

It was determined Cotton was an associate of the victim and not responsible for his injuries.

Cotton was charged with discharging a fire arm in city limits and three counts of damage to property. He is currently being held at the Nash County Jail under $10,000 bond.

The victim's identity has not been released at this time due to the ongoing investigation.
