A man has been charged in a Rocky Mount shooting from Sunday.

On Sunday afternoon, Rocky Mount Police Department officers responded to 305 Cokey Road after learning of a shooting. Police discovered the shooting occurred in the 400 block of East Raleigh Boulevard. One person was hurt.

Investigators determined that Demonta Hyman was responsible for the shooting. Police said Hyman was out on bond from a previous incident where he pointed a firearm at a law enforcement officer.

Hyman, 19, was charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury with intent to kill. Monday morning, Hyman was taken into custody. He was given a $500,000 secured bond and remanded to the Edgecombe County Jail.

In March, Hyman was involved in a larceny investigation. During this investigation, Hyman left the scene, brandished a firearm and pointed it at a officer.

In this instance, Hyman was charged with assault on government official with a firearm, resisting arrest, and carrying a concealed weapon.

Hyman was later arrested and given an $8,000 secured bond. Hyman posted bond for that offense on April 4 and was released from custody.
