Possible pipe bomb found in Nashville

A pipe bomb was found and safely detonated by the North Carolina SBI Monday in Nashville.

According to the Nashville Police Department, officers received a 911 call about a pipe bomb around 5:30 p.m.

Police had placed the surrounding community on a shelter-in-place alert while authorities worked to safely remove the device.

Police had NC Highway 58 at East Old Spring Hope Road and South 1st Street at Glover Park closed while authorities waited for the SBI to arrive with a bomb deposal unit. The road was closed for hours.

"I think it's crazy. It's like, why on earth would someone want to be putting a pipe bomb in our subdivision," said Ana Joyner, who lives in the neighborhood where the pipe bomb was found. "I just, you know, can't even think it's real. It doesn't feel real."

According to authorities, SBI removed the bomb with a robot and took it to a safe location, where it was detonated.

No one was injured and no one is in custody, with police saying they don't know how the bomb got there.
