Person shot, killed by Fairmont police officer after stabbing

A person was shot and killed by a Fairmont police officer Monday night after the officer was stabbed.

Around 8:30 p.m., a Fairmont police officer was attacked by a suspect with a knife. The officer shot and killed the suspect.

The police chief said the officer was stabbed multiple times and was taken to a local hospital.

The investigation is ongoing.

"Please keep the officers of the Fairmont Police Department and the deceased suspect's family in your prayers," said Fairmont Police Chief Jon Edwards.
