Crash injures pedestrian on Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd in Raleigh

A pedestrian is dead after being hit by a vehicle on Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. in Raleigh early Friday morning.

Charles Thompson, 58, was crossing the road on foot when he was struck by a man driving a Ford truck.

Thompson was taken to the hospital with serious injuries after the crash, which happened around 1:30 a.m. He died as a result of his injuries.

Officials say Thompson was not on a crosswalk and the area of road was not well lit.

The driver remained at the scene.

No charges have been filed at this time. The crash remains under investigation.

The road was taped off with yellow police tape stretching from Coleman St. to Quarry St.
