Over two dozen cars broken into in Rocky Mount Tuesday; two juveniles arrested

Police determined the suspects broke into 28 cars Tuesday night after receiving a report of car robberies in the northwestern area of Rocky Mount.

Over two dozen car break-ins Tuesday led police to apprehend two juveniles in Wake County.

According to the Rocky Mount Police Department, officers responded to multiple hotels in the northwestern area of the city in reference to vehicles were being broken into.

After a preliminary investigation, police determined a total of 28 cars were broken into.

Officers later determined the suspects stole a Jeep from a DoubleTree Hotel parking lot.

While RMPD officers were following up with the Hotels, the Nashville Police Department attempted to stop the stolen Jeep on US Highway 64 westbound for a traffic violation.

The suspects left the traffic stop and Nashville officers pursued them. The chase ended after the suspects crashed in Wake County, at which point the suspects attempted to escape on foot.

Two juveniles were apprehended and found to be in possession of stolen property from the break-ins as well as stolen property from other areas.

The two juveniles were from Durham and Clayton and face several felonies, including breaking and entering a motor vehicle, larceny of a motor vehicle, larceny of a firearm and felony flee to elude arrest.

Police said the juveniles may be charged with additional crimes as the investigation continues. Both juveniles are currently at the Wake County Juvenile Facility under a secure custody order.

Rocky Mount Police Chief Robert Hassell thanked NPD for their assistance, stating their actions lead to the identification and apprehension of the two suspects and the recovery of multiple firearms.
