Celebrity chef Kenny Gilbert announced plans Thursday to open a restaurant in north Raleigh.

Cut & Gather is expected to open at 13100 Falls of Neuse Road in early 2020. The restaurant will feature wood-fired Southern cuisine, including barbecue and seafood.

“I first came to Raleigh in 2010 as a special chef guest at the annual Southern Women’s Show and was fortunate to experience firsthand the exciting level of food talent here even back then,” Gilbert said. “Fast forward to today – national award-winning names such as friend and former Amelia Island colleague Scott Crawford have cemented the Raleigh food scene on the map. I am thrilled to plant roots here and add my own experiences and passion for re-imagined Southern cuisine to one of the fastest growing areas of the country.”

Gilbert started cooking as early at age 7, learning how to make homemade sauces and rubs from his father. He cooked an entire Thanksgiving dinner solo by age 11.

Gilbert is known for being a fan favorite on season seven of Bravo's "Top Chef." He was a winner on the Food Network's "Beat Bobby Flay" and has judged "Chopped Junior." In addition to cooking at the G8 summit, Gilbert also prepares Oprah Winfrey's personal holiday meals each year.

Gilbert isn't the only "Top Chef" alum opening a restaurant in Raleigh. Chef Katsuji Tanabe announced plans earlier this month at 208 Wolfe St. in the old home of Zydeco restaurant and around the corner from Mofu Shoppe.
