Oh the horror!: Durham to host 25th annual Nevermore Film Festival

Calling all horror fanatics! The Nevermore Film Festival is coming back to Durham this February.

The Carolina Theatre of Durham will host the 25th annual Nevermore Film Festival from Feb. 23 to Feb. 25.

Nevermore showcases narrative features and shorts, with an emphasis on horror, science fiction, dark fantasy, animation, mystery/suspense and action-thrillers.

The 2024 edition contains 11 feature films and 60 shorts, with 41 North Carolina premieres, five United States premieres and five world premieres. Filmmakers from nine different countries will be in attendance, as well as three filmmakers local to North Carolina.  

Highlights this year will include the following films:

  • Psychological thriller, "The Activated Man"
  • The Estonian dark fantasy, "Dr. Sanders Sleep Cure"
  • Zombie-comedy, "All You Need Is Blood"
  • Locally shot film, "The Eye of the Salamander"

A full list of Nevermore Jury Award-winning films will be announced mid-February. Festival-goers will be able to participate in voting for audience favorite awards during the festival. 

"Now in its 25th year, the festival will screen the most feature films and shorts in its history," said Jim Carl, senior director of film at the Carolina Theatre.

You can also attend the festival virtually from Feb. 23 to March 1.  

Individual tickets for the in-person Nevermore Film Festival are $13.50, and 10-passes are $120 including taxes and fees. Individual tickets may be purchased online at carolinatheatre.org or at the theater’s box office. Passes will only be available at the box office. Virtual tickets are $12.93 per film and virtual passes are $113.92, including taxes and fees. Virtual tickets and passes can be purchased at carolinatheatre.org.
