A Hope Mills woman has been charged with sexual acts with an inmate, according to the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office.

Jean Rodriguez was arrested on Thursday and charged with five counts of sexual acts by a custodian for engaging in sexual acts with an inmate at the Cumberland County Detention Center where she was employed.

The charge can stem from sexual activity between correctional facility employees and inmates or detainees.

Rodriguez, 32, worked as a license practical nurse and would provide care to inmates through Southern Health Partners, Inc. She is being held at the Cumberland County Detention Center on a $250,000 secure bond.

Authorities began to investigate Rodriguez on April 5 after concerns were brought up by another Southern Health Partners employee.

Her first appearance is at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, May 12, 2023, at the Cumberland County Detention Center. More charges are possible.
