No booze for 30 days after raid at Selma strip club

The arrest of employees Wednesday night at a Selma strip club has cost the establishment its liquor license.

Erin E. Bean, a special agent with the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigations' Alcohol Law Enforcement Branch, said Friday that ABC permits for Gentlemen's Playhouse had been suspended for 30 days based on the illegal activities taking place there.

The club, on Graham Street, just off of Interstate 95, was raided on Wednesday night. Eight people were arrested on drug charges, six of them Gentlemen's Playhouse employees.

• Brittany Nicole Boswell, 20, was charged with underage possession of alcohol and simple possession of marijuana.
• Shana Renee Richardson, 30, was charged with 38 counts of possession with the intent to sell and deliver controlled substances, eight counts of failure to supervise an ABC-licensed premises and one count of sale of an alcoholic beverage to a minor.
• Daniel Charles Myers, 30, was charged with two counts of possession with the intent to sell and deliver cocaine and two counts of conspiracy to sell and deliver cocaine.
• Krishan Lal, 68, was charged with six counts of failure to supervise an ABC-licensed premises.
• Jasbir Singh Sandhu, 58, was charged with six counts of failure to supervise an ABC-licensed premises.
• Robert Earl Hill, 42, was charged with two counts of failure to supervise an ABC-licensed premises.

The two arrested customers were Jemel Deshone Boylan, 33, and James Elijah Tart, 26. Boylan was charged with 32 counts of possession with the intent to sell and deliver controlled substances. Tart was charged with one count of possession with the intent to sell and deliver methamphetamines.

Authorities said complaints about drug dealing started in March.

During a monthlong investigation, undercover agents with the N.C. Alcohol Law Enforcement were able to buy cocaine, marijuana and illegal alcohol from employees and customers, authorities said.

The raid isn't the first time Gentlemen's Playhouse has been in legal trouble.

In 2013, an undercover operation ended with 32 arrests.

ALE said since then, there have been numerous other criminal violations.

Effective immediately, no alcoholic beverages may be served or consumed on the premises. The suspension will end on June 23, or before then if the club is able to convice local law enforcement and the ABC commissioners that it has a plan to eliminate the problems behind the suspension.
