CORNELIUS, NC — The wind was whipping gusts of more than 50 miles per hour, but it wasn't the fastest thing in the towns of Cornelius and Davidson on Friday night.

That title would have to go to the electric offense of No. 5 Hough, which scored three goals in the first 16 minutes of its nonconference match with Cox Mill to roll to a 5-0 win.

Even in tight spaces, the Huskies showed the touch and poise on the ball to build up and finish in the attacking third going against a returning HSOT second-team all-state goalkeeper, Furman recruit Reese DeJong.

No player was more red-hot than senior Kylee Thompson. A returning honorable mention all-state player, Thompson had a first-half hat trick and only played the first few minutes of the second half as the Huskies took a 4-0 lead into the break.

Thompson's first goal was a laser from atop the box in the 4th minute, her second — which came after teammate Avery Rush made it 2-0 with a golazo into the upper 90 from 20 yards out — came after deking a few defenders. She sent in a looping shot from 20 yards out on the left side that just glanced over the keeper's outstretched mitts

Her third came in the 36th minute as she headed in a cross from Sarah Funderburk.

Thompson assisted to Mary Wunder in the 48th minute on a corner kick to make it 5-0.

Wunder, Funderburk, Victoria Poslinski, and Sydney Lassiter, also had assists.

Hough (11-1) has only lost to undefeated No. 4 Millbrook this season and is atop the Queen City Athletic Conference.

Cox Mill (8-4-2) currently sits in second place of the Greater Metro 4 Conference behind only Mooresville, which it lost to 2-0 in overtime.
