One of the few blemishes to South Mecklenburg’s boys basketball record this season was quickly thrown to the rear view mirror thanks to a dominant first half performance in the Battle of Park Road against Charlotte Catholic.

Seven different Sabres hit three-point baskets in the first 12 minutes of the game to help the team shake off a loss from Berry from the night before, and walk away victorious 63-52.

South Meck made an early statement by establishing a 17-4 lead after one.

Drew Dinkins did his part to pull Catholic back into the game, but the three’s continued to rain down from the home side.

Jim Gatehouse hit consecutive triples to help send the Sabres into the locker room with a 41-20 lead in hand.

Charlotte Catholic chipped away at its deficit by outscoring the Sabres by double figures in the second half, but the early hole was too much to overcome.

Peter Moye led South Mecklenburg with 22 points, and Anderson Skelton poured in 15. Gatehouse was the only other Sabre to finish with double digit points as he contributed 10.

The win was Moye’s 11th game of the season in which he eclipsed 20 points scored.

South Mecklenburg travels to Palisades on Friday night with a chance to make up ground that it lost in the SoMeck standings. The Sabres are 17-3 overall and 5-2 in league play.

Charlotte Catholic falls to 13-7 with the defeat. The Cougars will put their 5-3 conference record on the line this Friday at Rocky River.
