Deputies Find Truck Possibly Used in Home Robbery, Shooting

The Orange County Sheriff's Office announced Thursday that it has recovered a white pickup truck that men suspected in a fatal home break-in and shooting might have driven.

Deputies said they were looking for two or three black males driving white, full-size, extended cab truck, possibly a Ford, after the incident on Nov. 26.

Eva Marie Johnson Jacobs, 49, told 911 personnel she had been shot during a break-in in progress at her 7121 Compton Road home in Cedar Grove. She was dead when deputies arrived.

Investigators found marijuana in the house. Jacobs' checkbook listed deposits from $600 to $1,000 every other day, with the word "crop" written beside them.

Detectives credited a lead from the Durham Police Department with the break in the case. A similar vehicle was used in a robbery and shooting in Durham, and investigators tracked down its owner.

He told investigators he had loaned the pickup to a person on Nov. 1, and it was never returned.

On Tuesday, the 2000 Ford F-150 was found backed up to a house on Proctor Street in Durham. It was towed to a State Bureau of Investigation laboratory, where it was being processed.

Investigators said evidence inside the truck satisfied them that it was used in the Nov. 26 robbery and shooting.

Deputies said they were seeking the men, but did not release names in order to not hinder their investigation.
