Drivers will have to travel more slowly on several major roads in Fayetteville, including on sections of Cliffdale Road, Pamalee Drive and Stoney Point Road.

The changes went into effect Wednesday, when new speed limit signs were installed at:

  • Cliffdale Road between Raeford Road and Reilly Road: Speed limit reduced to 45 mph from 50 mph
  • Pamalee Drive/Country Club Drive between Bragg Boulevard and Ramsey Street: Reduced to 45 mph from 50 mph
  • Stoney Point Road between Dundle Road and the Hoke County line: Reduced to 45 mph from 55 mph

Fayetteville City Council approved the changes on June 13.

Temporary electronic message boards will be posted near routes to alert drivers.

The reduced speed limits come as the "Speeding Wrecks Lives" initiative kicks off. The campaign started in July and is an effort by the Fayetteville Police Department and other North Carolina agencies to make roads safer by ensuring drivers obey speed limits.

Since July 18, 2022, Fayetteville police officers have stopped 160 vehicles for speeding.
