Carolina Panthers park opens in Raleigh

A new Carolina Panthers playground and challenge course was unveiled during a dedication ceremony on Tuesday.

The New "Panthers Play 60 Challenge Course" at Barwell Park Road features a 40-yard dash with a time clock, a climbing wall and a ropes course.

The course is primarily built for children 8- to 12-years-old. This is a first-of-its-kind for Raleigh and will provide a new concept in play for kids and families in the community.

Nicole Tepper, wife of Panther's Owner David Tepper, attended Tuesday's ceremony.

"Our community relations had this vision for this park. Combined with everyone else, it was magic," she said. "It means so much to see this come to life, especially post pandemic, to see the kids out here running around and playing and having fun, means the world.“

Kevin Donnalley, a former Panthers football player and star athlete from Athens Drive High School also attended the event. He said that he's thrilled to give back to kids in a community where he grew up.

"The pandemic is slowing down," he said. "Now they have a whole new playground area where they can take advantage of.”

Donnalley said it's important for kids to get outside, get fresh air, and exercise. He hopes the park will help build a better sense of community in southeast Raleigh.

"We are a family. And so once we’re here, we don’t just build," Tepper said. "We will always be here. This is a part of our North Carolina family."
