Guns, ammo found in car of man charged with impersonating police officer

NC State police arrested a man last week they said was pretending to be a police officer.

Investigators found guns and ammunition in Demetrius Morrison’s car after pulling him over on April 10 on Western Boulevard. Police saw Morrison driving with an expired vehicle registration.

Morrison had an active warrant out for his arrest for a February assault on a woman, public documents show.

Police said Morrison tried to show them a fake badge, claiming to be an officer.

NC State police found two handguns, three rifles, a shotgun, a pepperball gun, two OC aerosol foggers, six handcuffs, two flex cuffs, police tape, dozens of radios and communication devices and 826 rounds of ammunition in the vehicle.

Police arrested Morrison for driving with a revoked license, impersonating law enforcement, carrying a two concealed weapons, open container violations and the outstanding warrant.

Morrison has already made his first appearance in court. He was released from jail on a $5,000 bond.

Morrison has no ties to NC State, police said.

According to the police, there was never a threat to the NC State campus.

On Monday, NC State students said they were glad to hear about the arrest. However, they also said they are concerned someone could have so many guns so close to school.

“I mean, I think it’s terrible it’s happening on our campus,” NC State junior Morgan Fields said.

NC State junior Jackson Harris echoed Fields’ sentiments.

“I think normal people shouldn’t have access to that kind of arsenal,” Harris said.

This isn’t the first impersonation of a first responder this year on campus.

In March, Kenly Fuller was charged after police said he impersonated an EMT on NC State’s campus.
