North Carolina's own John Morgan is highlighting his love for the Tar Heel State in the NBC show "American Song Contest."

He's a singer-songwriter now living in Nashville, but grew up in Sylva, a small town nestled in the North Carolina mountains. Morgan also wrote "If I Didn’t Love You," a smash hit performed by Jason Aldean and Carrie Underwood.

"I'm just happy to be here and happy to have this platform to perform as many times as we get to," Morgan told reporters.

The show airs Mondays on WRAL with artists representing each state and territory in completion for the nation's best song.
