Fault Lines exhibit explores environment through art

The North Carolina Museum of Art is revitalizing its brand by honoring the People's Collection and one of its more well-liked sculptures.

Called 'a groundbreaking seminal commission' that debuted in 1999, 'Gyre' by Thomas Sayre captures the museum's spirit and brings together a connection of art, nature and people. The rings that stand on the museum grounds are popular with guests.

The opening weekend celebrates the new People's Collection galleries on Oct. 8 and 9. That weekend will feature free celebrations featuring free artist-led tours, dance, music and more.

Museum Director Valerie Hillings talked with Sayre about his artistic process and what brought his works to light. Based off that conversation, the museum crafted a new logo.
