Watermelon is the perfect summer treat, including for the animals who call the Museum of Life and Science home. And this week, the Durham museum will be treating them to even more of the juicy fruit as part of Watermelon Days.

The event runs through Aug. 13 and is free with admission to the museum, which is $23 for general admission and 18 for kids ages 3 to 12 these days.

Each day, there will be pop-up opportunities to see the museum's animal care team feeding animals different watermelon treats and creating some watermelon-themed enrichment activities for the animals to enjoy. There is no schedule for these.

Museum goers also can check out virtual curated content, which they can find via QR codes located at the bear, lemur and pig exhibits. And museum's cafe also be serving some special watermelon offerings for humans.

Check the museum's website for more information.
