Residents in the town are frustrated that the only trash truck in the town is out of service.

Mount Olive residents voiced their frustrations Wednesday after they say the only waste truck for the town has been out of service for over a week.

According to residents, one small trash truck serves nearly 25,000 residents in the area. The truck was pulled for service and there was a shipment delay on the parts.

Mount Olive took control of trash collection in July, claiming it would help the town save money and better serve residents.

Town Manager Jammie Royal said the truck will be back in service Thursday, adding the town will look for more solutions to prevent another trash pileup for residents.

“We’re going to look and see if a different truck is what we need, or if we need to go with a private vendor, or what’s going to help the town best,” Royal said.

The town will meet in September to look into solutions.
