Morrisville’s first high school will bear its name.

The Wake County Board of Education approved naming the school, which will open in the fall of 2027, on Tuesday evening.

The board selected the name from three suggestions that came from the Wake County Public School System. The two others were Paramount Parkway High School and Parkside High School. The district recommended Parkside High School out of the three, which is what a new area middle school will also be called.

The school board has in recent years opted to not name schools after towns and have leaned toward naming schools after landmarks or other geographic features.

But Board Member Chris Heagarty supported using the town’s name this time around in part because Morrisville has no schools named for the town — the only town in Wake County that doesn’t have at least one school bearing its name.

The new high school will be located near the Research Triangle Park on land once owned by the town and Wake Technical Community College. People will be able to access the school via Paramount Parkway.
