Mom used T-shirt as tourniquet to help son injured in Sampson County shooting

Two people were injured when a several bullets were fired into a mobile home in Sampson County, a woman said.

Shnetta Corbett said she’s lived in the mobile home on Byrd-Yancey-Bass Road in Clinton for about six years. She was asleep around midnight when she woke up to the sound of a barrage of gunshots.

Her 18-year-old son and 17-year-old nephew were struck, she said.

Corbett said she used a T-shirt as a tourniquet on her son’s injured leg until help arrived.

The two victims were taken to a hospital. Their conditions were not known.

Five people were in the home at the time. Bullets hit Corbett's headboard, she said, missing her by inches.

Corbett said her son got into an argument with someone on the phone Monday, and she said she thinks the argument could be tied to the shooting.

The Sampson County Sheriff's Office said another residence on Byrd-Yancey-Bass Road was damaged by gunfire, but no one was injured.

Witnesses were not able to provide a suspect description, authorities said.
